"Italy is made of art. In the most remote corner of every single city, town or village lives an artist with a story to be told. On a thousand canvases and sculptures they need to be shown to the world, creations and creatures of curious and talented souls." Hotel Margherita, Amalfi Coast
"Take the bus to the last stop in Praiano, look for the "Africano" sign. turn right here, Towards the sea a set of winding steps. at the top, follow the pathway through the bush and past the goats, then, a bathing beauty riding a dolphin and "Monstra D'Arte" …… you have arrived ….. OK?”
These were our instructions delivered in broken English on the hunt for Atelier, Paolo Sandulli. Having seen his work in several hotels and restaurants scattered around the Amalfi Coast, his work had left us speEchless each time.
Along The Coastline Of Praiano
atelier Torre Asciola. built by Carlo Angio in the 1200's, Sitting at the end of a rocky pathway flanked by Cacti and Goats. It is one of 34 towers along the Amalfi Coast. The towers were built over 800 years ago and stand as a reminder of the struggles incurred by the local people who have Constantly defended themselves from attack over the last 8 centuries.
Paolo Sandulli creates sculptures inspired by the sea. He draws inspiration from fisherman, marine life, water nymphs and dolphins. The portraits that hang on the walls of Torre Asciola are of actual fisherman that have lived or are living in the village of Praiano. “I’m a custodian of memories as well as an artist” Sandulli explains.

"My mother maintained that the interior of your home should be a true reflection of yourself. When a guest walks in they should immediately understand who you are and what you love" Alexandra Foster.
This couldn't ring more true on visiting Paolo Sandulli's Atelier
Sandulli also creates collections of small sculptural vignettes capturing the way of life of the local fisherman and mystic marine life. He says of this collection “I see my role as one of cultural protection as well as creation”
