Whilst visiting Ghana, Gregory “Ayinedollah” MacCarthy fell under the spell of this African countries young, energetic culture and its vibrant craftmanship. Baba Tree Basket Company was born through his desire to showcase these superb, handmade products to the world. Priding itself on being the fairest traders in the Bolgatanga, all of the brands products are created from all natural materials and transformed by Baba Tree’s incredible artisan weavers. These functional works of art symbolise Ghana’s energy, creativity and hope for the future.

In Bolgatanga, when a marriage takes place, part of the dowry is 2 cows. In the midst of a workshop organised for 20 weavers to travel to the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India, artisan weaver Jemima Akolgo was asked how many cows it would take if she was proposed to. With a sly look she said “10 cows” which bought the house down with laughter. Jemima was the first to weave this particular style, hence the name, Jemima 10 cows.
